BEAVERHEAD COUNTY, MONTANA – Mithril Mining Corp. has partnered with Montana Mining Association (MMA) on a demonstration project focused on advancing domestic tungsten production from U.S. feedstocks. As part of the initiative, Mithril recently completed a 500-ton bulk sample of historical stockpiled material from the Calvert Tungsten Mine in southwest Montana, marking a significant milestone for a historic mine that has not been active since the 1960s.
The Calvert Tungsten Mine is one of three domestic tungsten sources selected for the demonstration project, which is being conducted in partnership with Montana Technological University (MTU) and the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Army Research Laboratory (DEVCOM ARL). Throughout 2026, industry and research partners will evaluate material from historical wastes, stockpiles, and previously operated mines to demonstrate a pilot-scale pathway to refined U.S. tungsten metal powder.
Material from the Calvert bulk sample will support the next stages of the demonstration program and help evaluate the potential of historical U.S. resources to contribute to a more secure and reliable tungsten supply chain for defense applications. If the 500-ton bulk sample run is successful, additional material from the Calvert stockpile may be supplied as part of an expanded program.
